Alphabet Ring Flier

App Information

As a highly-trained pilot with an appreciation for the English alphabet, you must navigate through letter rings to spell words of varying difficulty while avoiding all kinds of dangerous obstacles and enemies. Rotating spike balls, alien spacecraft that shoot deadly missiles, small meteors blazing through the atmosphere, and spiky alien heads that seek to impale their victims, the skies have never been safer, but your humble single-propeller biplane has never been more up to the task. If you enjoy spelling and word games in addition to flying through the atmosphere through different kinds of sky backdrops, this game is for you.

Game FAQs and Common Troubleshooting Issues

What are the differences in difficulty level?

Harder levels require the user to spell larger words, whereas shorter levels require the user to spell simpler words, often as short as 3 letters.

Level DifficultyHelp Topics
How do levels become more challenging as the game progresses?

As the game progresses, more enemies are spawned, and the time between successive spawn events becomes much short. Likewise, the total number of spawn events and the time between spawn events is shorter, giving the user a shorter time to spell the target word.

Game Difficulty Help Topics
How are enemies generated programmatically?

A series of enemy encounters is generated from a linked list, which in turn is generated dynamically using random values for the spawning intervals and the number of enemies spawned per encounter.

How are words spelled?

In order to spell a word, the user must fly through the letter rings whose letter corresponds to the letters in the target word. The plane must fly through letter rings in the order in which letters occur in the target word or else the words won't be spelled.

Letter Rings Help Topics
When is the player considered to have lost the game?

The player loses when health level falls to zero or when the total number of encounters for a given series of encounters, as determined by the number nodes in a linked list, runs its course.

Game Loss Condition Help Topics
When is a player considered to have won the game?

The playe will complete a level when the target word for a given level is spelled in completion, which means the player's plane has passed through all the letter rings whose letters correspond to the letters in the target word in the order in which these letters occur in the target word.

Game Rules Help Topics
When is a player considered to have lost the game?

When health level falls below zero, the player is considered to have lost the game. Once the player's health falls below zero, the player plane will not be able to achieve a game win by contacting the endpoint letter. Conversely, if the player contacts the endpont letter, then subsequent damage cannot reduce player health to the point of causing the player to lose the game.

Game Rules Help Topics
How can the player be moved?

The player is moved via swipe gestures. Swiping left or right causes the biplane to roll left or right, respectively, while swiping up or down causes the biplane to pitch up or down respectively.

Player Movement Help Topics
What is the player's starting health? How can health status be determined?

The player's starting health is set to 6 and can be determined by checking the number of hearts in the HUD display at the top of the screen.
